We have begun the process of looking for a new Union Headquarters. We met with Arsenal Buisness Managment company of Hankin Properties. We informed them of our interest in seeking a new property and would be looking at an early release from the Dec. 2013 Lease. We are unsure if there is going to be any type of penalty for the early release, but Mr. John Swanson who is the representative for Hankin Properties only asked if they could be involved in either helping in securing a property or in building a new property since they were not only real Estate brokers but had their own Construction Company as well. We are taking that offer into consideration, but would only oblige if there was no cost associated with the early release. We have applied for a mortgage with TD bank to see what we could qualify for so we could begin the process of looking at properties that would suit our needs. We are looking at something that would save the local money. Currently we pay $4,663.30 a month. We believe that is too much and we feel that much of the space 3,997 sq. ft. we currently occupy is more than we need. Once we have more news, I will post it on the website.
We have recently filed our LM-2 report for 2011 with the Dept. of Labor and this can be viewed at their site www.dol.gov/olms our file number is 091903. We also have filed our tax reports with the IRS, 990 & 990T this can be viewed from the links above. We had an underpayment due for the 2011 990T which came to $5,114.00 which was paid 3-17-12. The tax deposit for 2012 was estimated at $8,667.00 also paid on 3-17-12. The underpayment was due to a advance taken by the previous administration in 2010 but which was not reported until 2011 by the previous accountants Novak-Francella. This caused a payment to be owed in 2011. The audit has not been completed yet, but I was assured that it will be done in the next few days. Once it is completed it can also be viewed from the links above. I have been attempting to get the loan amorization schedule from the National for the end of year and end of the first quarter 2012 with little success. I will get it. It is my priority to give the members as much information to the finances of this local as possible, and I will not be prevented from doing that.
Many of you who come to the Union meetings know that we have changed accounting firms. Our old firm Novak-Francella prepared last years reports such as the LM-2, 990 &990T as well as the audit. That cost this local over $30,000.00, they would not even begin the process until we paid them $10,000.00 becuase of unpaid bills from the previous administration. We felt that the overall cost was too much and took the appropriate steps to lower that cost. We solicited new proposals and with the Executive Boards approval we went with the cheapest firm of Shulman, Kurtz, Turer & Topaz. As reported above the LM-2 report is completed as is the 990 & 990T. The audit should be finalized in a week or two. As of this date we have not gotten a bill for any of this work. As soon as we do I will report to you how much it cost or how much we saved. In either case we will let you the member know. If for any reason the cost exceeds last years we will not hesitate to look at other firms. I don't anticipate that will happen, but if it does I will let you know. So far this new firm has been good to work with, and we have no concerns regarding their work.
We have scheduled this years picnic for June 23rd 2012 and we are hoping for a big turnout. It's a great way to meet other members from the different branches. Keep that date open and we hope to see all of you at Union Headquarters. Lots of free food, refreshments, fun and entertainment for you and your familiy.
